Competition format and divisions

COMPETITION FORMAT & DIVISIONS

One race. Multiple ways to compete.

APEX is a hybrid endurance competition built around running, functional movements and the SkiErg, BikeErg and RowErg.

The format is simple to understand, but it's not easy to master.

You run.
You work the Power Station.
You earn credits.
You reduce the distance on your next erg.

Then you do it again.

The better you manage your effort, the more it can work in your favour.

HOW THE COMPETITION WORKS

Run. Earn. Reduce. Repeat.

Each round brings together three parts of the race.

01 — RUN

Each round begins with a run.

You can push the pace, settle into a rhythm or save something for what comes next.

The choice is yours.

02 — POWER STATION

Next comes the Power Station.

You have 2 minutes to complete as many valid reps as possible.

Those reps aren't just there to make the workout harder.

They have a value.

03 — EARN YOUR CREDITS

Every valid rep you complete earns distance credits.

Those credits are then used to reduce the distance of your next erg.

So you have a decision to make:

Push harder now for a shorter erg later, or conserve energy and take on more distance?

There isn't one strategy that works for everyone.

That's what makes APEX a race.

04 — THE ERG

Your remaining distance is waiting.

Depending on the round, you'll face the:

SkiErg.
BikeErg.
RowErg.

Get the distance done and move on to the next round.

THE THREE ERGS

SkiErg

A full-body test that rewards rhythm, technique and the ability to keep working when your breathing starts to climb.

BikeErg

Simple on paper.

Pedal harder, go faster.

The problem is doing it when your legs are already tired.

RowErg

Power, technique and endurance all come together here.

A strong stroke helps, but being able to keep producing when you're fatigued is what matters.

THE POWER STATION

Two minutes can change your race.

The Power Station is where your strategy really starts to matter.

You have two minutes to accumulate as many valid reps as you can.

Those reps can reduce the distance you'll have to complete on the following erg.

That means every round gives you a choice.

Do you spend more energy now to make the next section shorter?

Or do you hold something back and accept the extra distance?

You won't know which decision was right until the clock stops.

YOUR DIVISION

Choose your challenge.

APEX has different divisions so athletes can compete at a level that suits them.

OPEN

The standard APEX competition.

Open is for athletes who want to test themselves against the standard APEX movements and competition weights.

You don't need to be an elite athlete.

You just need to be ready to race.

PRO

For athletes looking for a bigger challenge.

The Pro division increases the demands of the competition through heavier or more challenging prescriptions.

If you're used to pushing hard in training and want to see how you perform when everything is on the line, this is where you belong.

MASTERS

APEX Masters gives experienced athletes the chance to compete within their age group.

The same competitive format.

The same clock.

A different field to race against.

IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT FINISHING

It's about where you finish.

Everyone starts with the same opportunity.

What you do with it is up to you.

Your running pace matters.

Your Power Station reps matter.

Your erg performance matters.

And the decisions you make between them matter too.

At the end of the competition, your overall time puts you on the APEX leaderboard.

You might be racing for the top spot.

You might be trying to beat someone you train with.

Or you might simply want to see how you stack up against everyone else.

Either way, there's always another place to chase.

READY TO RACE?

Find your division. Build your strategy. See where you stand.

APEX isn't about finding the athlete who is best at one thing.

It's about finding the athlete who can put everything together.

Run. Earn. Reduce. Repeat.

Welcome to APEX.

The A.P.E.X. Time-Deduction Credit System

A.P.E.X. isn't simply a race against the clock.

It's a race against the clock with opportunities to change it.

Traditional endurance competitions reward athletes for moving from start to finish as quickly as possible. A.P.E.X. adds another layer: calculated aggression on the station floor can buy you time later in the race.

01 — Credit Stations

Selected functional stations are designated as Credit Stations.

These stations give athletes the opportunity to earn Time-Deduction Credits through high-output, efficient execution.

02 — Earn the Credit

Credits are awarded for meeting defined performance targets.

Depending on the station, this could mean:

  • Hitting a required pace threshold
  • Completing an unbroken rep target
  • Maintaining a specified work rate
  • Finishing within a designated time cap

The better you execute, the greater the potential advantage.

03 — Turn Work Into Time

Earned credits are applied directly to the race.

Time-Deduction Credits reduce the distance of a designated future endurance section, allowing athletes to turn high-output station work into a measurable advantage on the course.

But there is a catch.

Pushing for credits costs energy.

Every athlete must decide how aggressively to attack the station — and whether the time gained is worth the fatigue carried into the next section.

04 — Change the Race

This is where A.P.E.X. becomes tactical.

An athlete who manages their energy intelligently can use the Credit System to make up ground, overtake competitors, and completely change the shape of the leaderboard.

The fastest athlete isn't always the one who runs the fastest.

Sometimes, it's the one who knows when to spend their energy, when to take the risk, and when to make the move.

WORK HARDER. BUY TIME. CHANGE THE RACE.
